Midwives Honored as Pioneers

From left, Cathy Moore, CNM, Alva Nash, CNM, Nancy Curran, CNM, and Ann Russell, CNM, celebrated midwifery last month.
Thirty years after midwifery was signed into legislation for legal practice in Massachusetts, midwives from throughout the state gathered to celebrate. Four BWH practicing midwives received honors for their efforts as pioneers in advancing the practice of nurse midwifery in the state.
Nancy Curran, CNM, and Alva Nash, CNM, who were present at the signing of the bill legalizing midwifery, and Kathleen Sullivan, MSN, CNM, all members of the BWH Midwifery Group, received accolades for their contributions to the practice, as did Mary Barger, MPH, CNM, and Biddy Fein, MPH, CNM, both members of the Harvard Vanguard Midwifery Service.
The event, which was organized and?hosted by the Massachusetts Chapter of the American College of Nurse Midwives, was held Oct. 19 in Burlington.
