Scholarship Announced For Nursing Students
Kathleen and Steven Haley have endowed a Boston College scholarship program
in nursing research through their Brain Science Foundation. The first scholarships
are available for September 2004 for nurses enrolled in a graduate nursing program
leading to MS or PhD degrees.
The scholarship, available for full- and/or part-time graduate students in
Boston College’s William F. Connell School of Nursing, will further the
collaborations between BWH and Boston College in education and nursing research
towards the goal of enhancing patient care. Preference will be given to clinical
nurses working in a neuroscience unit at Brigham and Women’s/Faulkner or
its clinical affiliates, including both Children’s Hospital and the Dana-Farber
Cancer Institute.
Nancy Kruger, DNSc, RN, vice president, Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing
Officer said, “As more nurses obtain graduate degrees and become knowledgeable
in research, I anticipate that they will work with the BWH Center of Excellence
in Nursing Practice researching improvements in neurosurgical and neurological
nursing care. The Haley’s gift recognizes and advances the critical role
of nursing care in promoting recovery.”
