Stephen Nelson, NREMT-P, program manager of STRATUS Simulation Center, last month was honored with the Educator Award from the Metropolitan Boston Emergency Medical Services Council, Inc.
The award recognizes quality instruction and outstanding contributions to EMS education. In his work at BWH’s STRATUS Center, Nelson provides training in diagnostic and procedural skills in a simulated environment.
“Simulations allow providers to use critical thinking skills that train them for the best management of the sickest patients,” said Nelson, an advocate for simulation technology in the MBEMSC.
He has developed numerous programs for the various EMS systems, including a simulated pre-employment screening process for EMS services in Massachusetts. Nelson is involved in the ongoing education of EMS providers throughout Region 4 and the state. He has published work in journals including Annals of Emergency Medicine, Resuscitation and Academic Emergency Medicine.
