This year’s BWH United Way campaign raised a whopping $100,000 in support of those in need.
“Thank you to everyone who donated,” said Leo Buckley, director of Business Services for Patient Care Services and co-chair of the campaign, which concluded on Halloween. “Your generosity will go a long way in helping people in need.”
The United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley supports a network of 259 nonprofit agencies in direct services focusing on healthy childhood development, increasing youth opportunities, sustainable employment and affordable housing.
Nearly 600 BWHers participated in this year’s campaign, some of whom chose to personalize their donations to certain local organizations that the United Way benefits.
“We thank those who participated for their contributions, and we’re especially thankful to our ambassadors who worked throughout the campaign to get others involved,” said co-chair John Fanikos, of Pharmacy, who sported his tie-dyed United Way T-shirt throughout the campaign to show his spirit.
During the two-week campaign, BWHers were encouraged to give “a buck a week for our community,” or $52 per year. The campaign featured a number of raffles, two ice cream sundae parties and the delivery of about 200 personalized pumpkin-grams to BWHers throughout the distributed campus.
