Environment of Care is Everyone’s Responsibility
In November and December, BWH’s “Always Ready for Every Patient” campaign is focusing on the seven standards of the Management of the Environment of Care, as established by the Joint Commission for accreditation standards for all aspects of hospital operations.
“Management of the Environment of Care is everyone’s responsibility at BWH. We’re always ready, and we’re always safe,” said Steven B. Bloom, director of Environmental Affairs.
Q:Are we required to use fire extinguishers to put out small fires?
A:No. You should only attempt to use a fire extinguisher if you know how to do so safely. This means you are completely familiar with how to use an extinguisher, you are certain it is the right type of extinguisher for the fire, and you are sure that taking the time to use the extinguisher will not endanger you or anyone else. All fires, regardless of whether you extinguish them, require you to call a Code Red.
