Promotions, Graduations and Achievements
Andrea Galante, MS, RN, in December was named nurse manager of Tower 6BD Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplants, two 15-bed pods. About 80 staff, including nurses, patient care assistants and unit coordinators, report to her. Galante has been at BWH for five years as a staff nurse in the MICU and on 10AB and as a nurse in charge on Tower 15AB. She received her BSN from Syracuse University and her MS in Nursing Administration from Northeastern University.
Jim Mooney, BSN, RN, begins in May as assistant nurse manager for the center of Labor and Birth. He previously was assistant nurse manager of the OB Float Pool. Mooney joined BWH in the early 1980s as a unit secretary in Labor and Delivery. Since then, he has held nursing positions at BWH, MGH, and Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Matt Quin, BSN, RN, in April was named assistant nurse manager for both the Neurosciences ICU on 9CD and Radiology. Quin, who came to BWH in 2000, has been a nurse in the ICU float pool since then. He is studying for a master’s degree in Health Care Administration at Simmons College.
Roger Blanza, RN, in April was named a nurse in charge on 8C nights. He previously was a staff nurse on 8C.
Jian Rong Liu, BSN, RN, in April was named nurse in charge on 15AB. She previously was a staff nurse on 15AB.
Graduations and Certifications
Sherilyn Levy, RN, of the Center for Reproductive Medicine, completed her BSN at Emmanuel College.
Gabriele Harrison, RN, of the NICU, is finishing her master’s degree at Simmons College. She will be a pediatric nurse practitioner.
Angela Roddy Kanan, BSN, RN, CNOR, CRN, nurse in charge of MRT, in September received certification in Radiology nursing (CRN).
Achievements
The Commission for Case Manager Certification in April tapped the expertise of Ciola Bennett, RN, of Care Coordination care, along with 11 other certified case managers across the country to review the national case management exam to make sure it is fair and unbiased to all groups, regardless of race or ethnicity.
Angela Roddy Kanan, BSN, RN, CNOR, CRN, in March presented “MRI and the Brain: Past, Present and Future” and “Setting up an Intraoperative MRI (IMRI) Suite” at the Association of Operating Room Nurses Congress in Washington, D.C.
