Bane, Churchill Showcase eMAR at HIMSS
With patient safety at the forefront of health care today, industry eyes are on BWH as a leader and example of how to apply technology to make direct patient care safer and more efficient.
In February, Anne Bane, MSN, RN, interim program manager for Nursing Practice, and Bill Churchill, RPh, MS, director of Pharmacy Services, shared with other hospitals how to do just that at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference in San Diego. HIMSS, which frames and leads public policy and industry practices in health care information technology and management systems, accepts limited submissions—making Bane’s and Churchill’s presentation an honor.
Bane presented to a standing room only crowd, detailing BWH’s implementation process, its lessons learned and the next steps it will take to improve patient safety.
This presentation is one of many where Bane and Churchill have shared BWH’s success story. This spring, they take their presentation to Washington D.C. and New York, among other locations.
Many hospitals and health care organizations are looking to BWH as an example because few large hospitals in the country have an electronic medication administration system from front to back. “People always tell me at these conferences, ‘You folks got it right,’” Churchill said.
