Two year after beating breast cancer, Tracey Slaven, RN, is not only doing her part in battling cancer as an oncology nurse on 5A, but is also taking her fight to the fashion runway.
Slaven recently was invited to model along with 15 other people during the Brides Against Breast Cancer’s nationwide Tour of Gowns when it stopped in Boston this spring.
“It was such a great and unique experience,” said Slaven, who got to wear some of this year’s most sought after wedding gowns and rub elbows with TV personalities attending the event. “As a cancer survivor myself, what made it all the more special was that it benefits a great cause.”
This national tour is hosted by the Brides Against Breast Cancer organization, and a portion of dress sales benefits the fight against breast cancer. During the event, breast cancer survivors walk the runway in wedding gowns in front of a crowd of future brides looking for the perfect dress. A video of each model’s story details their courageous battle against cancer.
“I was overwhelmed by how uplifting the event was,” said Slaven. “I really enjoyed having my family there, especially my daughter, who got to see me in a wedding gown, and my mother, a four-time breast cancer survivor who has been an amazing inspiration to me.”
