IVCS for Non-Anesthesia Providers
The Intravenous Conscious Sedation (IVCS) for Non-Anesthesia Providers policy has recently been revamped to provide specific recommendations for the safe care of adult patient populations receiving IVCS during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed by non-anesthesia providers. Such procedures typically consist of endoscopic examinations, vascular and cardiac catheterizations, electrophysiology studies, diagnostic or interventional radiological procedures and other in-hospital procedures that are performed in procedure rooms, on patient care units or in the emergency department.
The practitioner(s) responsible for the care and treatment of the patient undergoing IVCS must be appropriately trained, with formal re-credentialing required every two years. Training sessions are held on the first Wednesday of every month in the Department of Anesthesia as well as through T3 online. For more information, or to sign-up for a class, contact Dr. Wendy Gross via email (wgross@partners.org). As of July 1, all IVCS providers will be required to be ACLS certified. For more information regarding ACLS certification, contact Nursing Professional Development at ext. 2-6480.
