Dear Colleagues:
In recognition of Patient Safety Awareness Week we observed earlier this month, I applaud your efforts to help sustain BWH as a national leader in patient safety.
Our Patient Safety Team, led by Tejal Gandhi, MD, has been instrumental in enabling the hospital to meet its stringent safety goals. Your feedback to this group and to the Center for Clinical Excellence, led by Michael Gustafson, MD, MBA, is appreciated.
Our patients have reaped the benefits of your commitment to the highest levels of safety from the beginning stages of computerized order entry to today's eMAR implementation. Each day, you routinely exercise extraordinary precautions to protect the safety of our patients during the most vulnerable times in their lives. Implementation of the eMAR program will not be free of unanticipated challenges, and we are grateful for your enthusiasm in helping to meet those opportunities to build the most sophisticated medication administration system possible.
I am proud to report that the hospital's web-based reporting system has enabled BWH's Patient Safety Team to better translate feedback into hospital system improvements. We continue to enhance the RL Solutions system to provide a less cumbersome process. As a result, systems are being refined to increase patient safety and add efficiencies for us as providers. BWH continues to support a blame-free environment in which constructive feedback on adverse events is a welcome means to improvement.
Sincerely,
Andy Whittemore, MD
Chief Medical Officer
