Single Point of Entry Aims to Better Protect Newborns and Families
To better safeguard newborns and mothers cared for on the Labor and Delivery and Post-partum floors of the Connors Center, enhanced security measures will be phased into current procedures in the coming weeks. Such measures on floors 5, 8, 9 and 10 will bolster patient safety and ensure a safer physical environment for patients and staff at Boston's busiest birthing center.
Beginning in early April, all visitors, family members and staff without Connors Center access-coded ID badges will be required to sign-in at the security desk in the Connors Center lobby. Then, the visitor or staff member will be permitted to use the main elevators to access their specific destination among floors 5 and 8 through 10. Visitors will be required to don stickers identifying them as such.
Staff who do have full access in the Connors Centers are advised to use the service elevators, located adjacent to the main passenger elevators, off of the ground level Connors Center Lobby. This measure will cut down traffic and wait times for visitors using the main elevators.
Physicians who frequently access the restricted floors are encouraged to make sure their ID badges are properly coded. Requests for this may be sent to Paula Gillette (ext. 2-8233) or Security and Parking (ext. 2-6001) for authorization.
