Many from throughout the hospital attended the open house for Tower 4B hosted
by its management and staff, who provided tours and answered questions. BWH's
newest pod boasts a patient and staff-focused layout, a family-friendly design and the very latest in post-surgical care technology.
After months of renovation, 4B includes ten private patient rooms and decentralized nursing stations, similar to the Thoracic ICU on Tower 11 that opened in Spring of 2001. Window seats and other special amenities make the rooms more comfortable for family members and other visitors. In addition to the patient pod, a new office space and a comfortably furnished family waiting area are part of Tower 4’s renovations. The new post-surgical pod is designated for Urology and Plastic Surgery patients.
“Recuperating urology patients will benefit from 4B’s state-of-the-art technology and highly specialized staff,” said Jerome Richie, MD, chief of the Division of Urology in the Department of Surgery. “The dedicated nursing staff will result in better patient education, better postoperative teaching, and overall improvement in patient as well as physician satisfaction.”
