Members of the Brigham and Women’s Physician Organization were dubbed the top performers in the Metro-Boston area according to the recent 2002 Tufts Physician
Group quality ratings. Out of a total of 165 provider groups in the entire Tufts
network, the BWPO ranked second overall.
The Tufts Area Health Plan rankings examined both member satisfaction and preventive care performance results. In seven out of 10 categories, the BWPO exceeded the 90th percentile nationally, resulting in an “excellent” rating.
“These findings reflect superbly on the manner in which our physicians are providing care,” said BWPO President Troyen Brennan, MD. “We recognize that exceptional care must include both a satisfactory patient experience and a thorough clinical encounter. According to these results, we are meeting our goals in both areas.”
Specifically, the physicians of the BWPO ranked above the 90th percentile nationally in breast and cervical cancer screenings, and HbA1c diabetic screenings. Patient satisfaction areas in which ratings of excellent were received included access to specialty care; outcome of care; personal interest in patients; and overall satisfaction levels with the primary care physician.
BWPO physicians ranked in the very good category in the remaining three areas of LDL-C cholesterol screenings, dilated eye-exams, and routine appointment wait times. In each of these three areas, the BWPO exceeded the national average.
This data will be posted on the Tufts Health Plan website and distributed to new patients who are in the process of choosing a physician.
