BWH mourns the loss of Helen (Muszynski) Kordis, RN, former BWH nurse who passed away Oct. 8. She was 86.
Mrs. Kordis was a 1946 graduate of Boston City Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a nurse in several hospitals during her 40-year career. She held leadership roles throughout her career, and most recently served as a night nursing supervisor.
Mrs. Kordis retired after three decades of service to The Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the 1980s.
“Helen’s commitment to nursing has made a lasting impression on many of us,” said Nancy Hickey, MS, RN, BWH associate chief nurse.
“Her life was dedicated to service, to her patients and nursing staff and to her children,” said Peggy Hinton-Kordis, RN, of the BWH Intermediate float pool. “My mom’s favorite prayer was ‘Mary I’ll take care of the sick ones, you take care of my healthy ones.’”
In addition to Hinton-Kordis, Mrs. Kordis is survived by eight children, including Ted Kordis of BWH Engineering, 14 grandchildren, including Amanda Kordis, RN, of Tower 15CD; and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Jack Kordis, and two brothers.
A funeral service and Mass was held for Mrs. Kordis on Oct. 13 at The Holy Name Church in West Roxbury.
