Emergency Nursing Certifications and Publications

The following group of BWH ED staff nurses recently completed the Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) exam: Sue Botsch, Peggy Bray, Kathleen Friedman, Debby Gayoski,
Jean Hickey, Debbie Hughes, Michael Lage, Tanya Lambert, Mary Ellen Lockhart,
Jean Mansfield, Corrine Miller-Foster, Steve Palmer, Michael Robinson,
Paula Rock, Marylou Stock, Daniel Kane, Nicki Gilboy, and William Briggs.
The CEN exam is a written exam covering all aspects of emergency nursing and the content is based on the Emergency Nurses Association, Emergency Nursing Core Curriculum and national surveys identifying current emergency nursing practice. The certification is valid for four years.

Unfolding Case Based Scenarios: A Method of Teaching and Testing the Critical Thinking Skills of Newly Licensed Nurses, by BWH Emergency Department’s Nicki Gilboy and Dan Kane (both photographed, left), was published in the February issue of the Journal of Emergency Nursing. According the Kane, “We developed a knowledge and critical thinking evaluation tool for our newly licensed nursing program here in the ED. We had a good deal of success with it and hope the article can be used as a resource for our educator colleagues around the world.”
BWHer Published in Dutch Journal
Nicki Gilboy, Emergency Department, was recently published in the Emergency Nursing Journal. Her article, Implementatie van triage op een Amsterdamse SHE, is based on implementation of a formal state-of the art triage system at the OLVG Hospital - an iAmsterdam hospital with no triage system. Gilboy spent a week in Amsterdam conducting the training. Later in the month, two nurses on the implementation team spent a week in the ED at BWH.
