Donovan Scholar Promotes Patient Safety

In the third annual combined Medical and Nursing Grand Rounds, BWH welcomed Audrey Nelson, PhD, RN, FAAN, as the 2004 Frances Donovan Visiting Nurse Scholar. Nelson presented two lectures - “Promoting Safety in Nursing Care for Patients and Staff,” on Thursday, April 15 and “Carrying Out the Imperative for Safe Patient Care,” on Friday, April 16.
Nelson is associate chief nurse for Research and directs the National Patient Safety Research Center, Health Services Research Development Center, and Evidence-Based Practice Center located at the Tampa, FL VA Medical Center.
This annual lecture series honors Mrs. Frances Donovan, a past president of the Friends of the former Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, and recognizes the importance of nursing care in meeting patients’ needs. Funding is provided by the Friends of BWH.
