Dear Colleagues:
Brigham and Women’s Hospital has a strong and proud tradition of excellence. BWH is consistently recognized as one of the best hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report and other groups who measure health care quality. The excellent care provided to patients and families by our highly skilled and dedicated nursing staff is the foundation of the hospital’s stellar reputation.
As nurses, we enhance the reputation of BWH when our work is recognized by our specialty and professional organizations. Each issue of BWH Nurse is devoted to the public acknowledgment of the professional and academic achievements that some of you have earned. As the CNO of this remarkable staff, I am very proud of your individual and collective accomplishments. Each award, degree, publication and presentation contributes to the strength of our nursing practice community, the larger BWH community, our profession and, most importantly, the good of our patients and families.
This month, we celebrate our nurse colleagues in clinical and leadership roles who were selected to receive prestigious local and national nursing awards. MaryAnne Bennett, clinical nurse in the NICU, received the Robyn Main Excellence in Clinical Practice Award from the National Association of Neonatal Nurses; Peggy Doyle is the recipient of the OR Manager of the Year Award from OR Manager, Inc.; Shaun Golden was recognized by ADVANCE for Nurses magazine for leadership; Katie Fitzgerald, Hayley Tuon, Theresa Bradt, Andrea Fonseca, Donna Joseph and Isabelle Shaw received Starfish Awards at BWH for being clinical leaders who consistently work to make a difference to the patients entrusted to their care. What is so important to me is that each of these nurses is recognized for dedication to excellence in patient care. Though their roles are very different, they share a commitment to building strong interdisciplinary teams and creating environments that humanize the hospital experience for patients and families at BWH.
On behalf of all nurses at BWH, I congratulate our honorees for their recognition and accomplishments. In their commitment to excellence, they hold out a vision for all of us of the best in our practice and, in doing so, contribute significantly to BWH’s tradition of excellence.
Sincerely,
Mairead Hickey, PhD, RN
Chief Nursing Officer and
Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services
