Five BWHers who always put their patients first sat before a packed Pod B Cafeteria for the fall Starfish Awards ceremony. They were among 12 recipients selected for their commitment to compassionate and patient centered care.“This year the Starfish Award has really been revived,” Kim Ternavan, RN, MS/MBA, chair of the Starfish Committee, said. “The nomination process has become more competitive, and to be honored, you must go above and beyond in patient care services.”
Layla Guled, of Interpreter Services, was recognized for always facilitating interactions between patients and staff. “I have no doubt Layla is on speed dial in phones throughout the hospital,” said Cheryl Clark, MD, SD, Department of Medicine, who nominated Guled for the award. “I have even seen her with patients on the weekends so they don’t miss any opportunities for care.”
