Moore Named Director of Cardiovascular Nursing

Mary Lou Moore, MSN, RN, CCRN, nurse manager on Tower 12, was appointed BWH’s director of Cardiovascular Nursing and Clinical Services effective Oct. 16.
“Mary Lou is well known throughout BWH for creating, collaborating with and leading interdisciplinary teams to improve care delivered to our patients and their families,” Mairead Hickey, PhD, RN, chief nursing officer and senior vice president of Patient Care Services, said.
Hickey said that Moore will play a key role in transitioning cardiovascular services from the Tower to the Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center. Already, Moore has played an important role in planning for the new facility.
On Tower 12, Moore is known for developing and implementing programs that provide encouragement and support for nursing staff who care for critically ill patients. These programs include Compassionate Care Rounds and Compassionate Care Intensive meetings.
Earlier this year Moore, who joined BWH in 1999, received the Excellent Nurse Manager Award from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). The Tower 12 nurses in-charge had nominated Moore for the award, which is given to nurse managers who exemplify the AACN’s vision of ethical care and make education a high priority for clinical nurses. In 2002, Moore received the Dennis Thomson Leadership Award.
Moore is a graduate of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital in Pennsylvania and earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Emmanuel College in Boston. She later received an MSN in Cardiopulmonary Nursing from the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professionals.
