BWH and the South End Community Health Center celebrated a special birthday on Sept. 24. Lucy Kimmel Robidoux, born at 6 pounds, 6 ounces, was the 5,000th baby for the South End Community Health Center.
Like Lucy, most of those babies were born at BWH as part of a long-standing relationship between BWH and SECHC going back to the days of one of BWH’s predecessor hospitals, the Boston Lying-In, in the 1970s. Through this partnership, BWH physicians and midwives provide prenatal care for women at SECHC and then care for them during delivery and post-partum at BWH.
“We had great care at both South End Community Health Center and at the Brigham,” Kyle Robidoux said of the experience he and wife Jill Kimmel had. “We really felt supported.”
Margaret Day, RN, who has been caring for obstetrics patients at SECHC for 30 years, said that the relationship between BWH and SECHC is extremely beneficial to patients. “We’re very proud to offer such excellent obstetrics care through this partnership,” she said.
BWH’s nurse midwifery program partners with SECHC staff to provide prenatal and postpartum care onsite at SECHC, said Miriam Mahler, CNM, MPH, who oversees the midwifery program at BWH. The BWH midwives provide obstetrical and gynecological services at 10 community health centers in greater Boston.
“The Brigham is our hospital of choice to work with because the quality of care is outstanding,” said Tristram Blake, executive director of SECHC.
