As technologies shift and new patient handling devices become available, the Ergonomics Program for Partners HealthCare Occupational Health Service is presenting a lunchtime seminar on Oct. 29 about safe patient handling in conjunction with National Ergonomics Month.
Tucker O’Day, MSPT, program manager of Ergonomics for PHC, said teaching clinicians who work with patients about the latest technology is a top priority.
“The use of equipment to handle patients represents a huge cultural shift for some nurses,” O’Day said. “But equipment can protect staff from injury while lifting patients.”
The luncheon session will include a panel presenting injury data, information on the BWH Lift Team, equipment available at BWH and tips on injury prevention. Vendors of equipment now used at BWH will share details about their equipment, and attendees will have a chance to test the equipment themselves following the presentation.
The event, targeted towards nurses, patient care assistants and direct care providers, is Oct. 29, noon – 1:30, in the Anesthesia Conference Room, CWN-L1. Lunch will be provided. CEUs available.
