BWH’s 2007 United Way Campaign Runs Oct. 17 - 31
Pledging as little as $1 per week to the United Way goes a long way for someone in need. That’s why, as BWH kicks off its 2007 United Way campaign, campaign co-chairs Leo Buckley and John Fanikos are encouraging all BWHers to participate by donating a buck a week.
“A buck a week, or $52 a year, provides 12 people with three hot meals,” said Buckley last week at a breakfast for United Way ambassadors, a group of BWHers from across the hospital who will share the message of the United Way with their colleagues during BWH’s campaign.
The United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley supports a network of 259 nonprofit agencies engaged in direct services focusing on healthy childhood development, increasing youth opportunities, sustainable employment and affordable housing.
Donating can be personal. Buckley, for example, was able to direct his United Way donation to the adoption agency that he adopted his three children from. “That was special for me,” he said.
The BWH campaign will run from Oct. 17 – Oct. 31, with several ice cream sundae parties, raffles and, back by popular demand, pumpkin-grams. “We want participating in the campaign to be both fun and meaningful for everyone,” Fanikos said.
At the request of departments, Fanikos and Buckley will attend a department meeting to discuss the campaign and the importance of donating.
