Thirty years after midwifery was signed into legislation for legal practice in Massachusetts, midwives from throughout the state gathered to celebrate. BWH practicing midwives received honors for their efforts as pioneers in advancing the profession in the state.
Nancy Curran, CNM, and Alva Nash, CNM, who were present at the signing of the bill legalizing midwifery, and Kathleen Sullivan, MSN, CNM, all of whom are members of the BWH Midwifery Group, received accolades for their contributions to the practice. Mary Barger, MPH, CNM, and Biddy Fein, MPH, CNM, both members of the Harvard Vanguard Midwifery Service, were also honored.
The event, which was organized and hosted by the Massachusetts Chapter of the American College of Nurse Midwives, was held on Oct. 19 in Burlington.
