Awards and Honors

Stephanie Ahmed |
Stephanie Ahmed, DNP, FNP-BC, nursing director of Ambulatory Care, was elected by her peers as a Distinguished Practitioner and Fellow in the National Academies of Practice (NAP) in the Nursing Academy. The National Academies of Practice is composed of 10 Academies representing health care practice in the areas of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Optometry, Osteopathic Medicine, Pharmacy, Podiatric Medicine, Psychology, Social Work and Veterinary Medicine. Only 150 Active Distinguished Practitioners may be elected to each Academy. Certificates will be presented at the annual NAP Forum and Banquet in March in Arlington, Va.
Degrees and Professional Certifications
Allison M. Konefal, BSN, RN, OCN, of the Hem/Onc BMT unit, earned her Oncology Nursing Certification from the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation.
Andris Soble, BSN, RN, of Shapiro 6W, earned her Certification for Adult, Pediatric and Neonatal Critical Care Nurses (CCRN) from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.
William Carroll, BSN, RN, of Care Coordination, received his bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science from the University of Massachusetts Boston.
Julie Anne McCarthy, BSN, RN, PCCN, of Tower 16CD, received her Certification for Progressive Care Nurses (PCCN) in December.
Rachael Bradley, MSN, RN, earned her master’s degree in Nursing Science from Endicott College in December.
Erin Foley, BSN, RN, of Tower 12A, received her bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science from the University of Massachusetts Boston in January.
Posters, Presentations and Publications

Vince Vacca |
Vince Vacca, MSN, RN, CCRN, clinical nurse educator for the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit, presented “Dizziness Following Head Injuries” at the New England College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (NECOEM) annual conference in December. Vacca also completed “Teaching and Learning Certificate–Academic Track,” a three-course program sponsored by the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Healthcare Professions.
Appointments
Jennifer Plummer, BSN, RN, joined the Emergency Department as a flow manager. Previously, Plummer worked for nine years as a charge nurse in the Emergency Department at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Jim Roche |
Jim Roche, MEd, BSN, RN, who previously served as the nurse educator on Shapiro 8, joined the nurse administrator group last month. Roche, who began at BWH in 1986, has served in positions including staff nurse in the PACU and Emergency Department, nurse in-charge in Cardiac Surgery and the Central Resource Float Pool.
Deborah Farina Mulloy, PhD, RN, CNOR, executive director for Nursing Quality, Measurement and Improvement, will serve as interim associate chief nurse for The Center for Women and Newborns.
