BWH AMMP Scholarship recipients
Since immigrating to the U.S. from Liberia, Nilea Wahkor has found that furthering her education is one of the most effective ways to better her life and that of her family. However, medical issues and other setbacks along the way have prolonged her educational journey.
Last month, she received help from the BWH chapter of the Association of Multicultural Members of Partners (AMMP), as she was one of 10 deserving BWHers awarded scholarships to promote the advancement and development of multicultural professionals into leadership roles.
“I’m so thankful for this opportunity because it will help me to improve my life,” said Wahkor, an administrative assistant in the Fish Center for Women’s Health. “Through these accomplishments, I can position myself to become a mentor and help others.”
AMMP annually awards $1,000 scholarships for employees pursuing college degrees or certificate programs.
“It’s a privilege to be able to help you take the next step in your career,” Angela Howard, BWH’s AMMP chairperson, told recipients and AMMP members during the award ceremony. “We know that by achieving your goal, you will become an ambassador for our program.”
