Harris Named ‘Pathfinder,’ Receives Awards
Jay Harris, MD, chairman of BWH’s Department of Radiation Oncology, was honored as one of seven global “Pathfinders” for his visionary leadership in the fight against breast cancer by the American Society of Breast Disease (ASBD). Harris received the prestigious award April 27 during the society’s 30th anniversary symposium in Las Vegas.
In announcing the inaugural Pathfinder Lectures, ASBD President Benjamin O. Anderson, MD, said, “The Society established this prestigious program to recognize the innovators who have combined research and clinical practice with an interdisciplinary understanding to advance the fight against breast disease and breast cancer.”
Anderson added, “Dr. Harris and the other Pathfinders reflect the spirit and commitment of the American Society of Breast Disease as the only clinically based organization to advocate an interdisciplinary team approach to managing breast disease and cancer prevention, risk assessment, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and research.”
In February, Harris received the Miami Breast Cancer Award during the 23rd annual Miami Breast Cancer Conference, which is sponsored by the Miami Breast Cancer Conference and the Medical Education Collaborative. This conference provides practicing surgical and medical oncologists with a multidisciplinary approach to the practice of Breast Cancer Management with incorporation of molecular biologic translation from the lab to the clinician.
