Sherry Iuliano, RN, of the Neurosciences ICU, and Julie Coutu, RN, of the Medical Intensive Care Unit, in May earned their MSN as family nurse practitioner from Regis College.
Lori Stevens, BSN, RN, program manager for the Center for Reproductive Medicine and the Family Planning Center, in August earned her MBA from Simmons College.
Julianne Mazzawi, BSN, RN, nurse manager of CWN-8, Caryn Douma, BSN, RN, of the NICU, and Joyce Thomas-Browning, BSN, RN, nurse manager of Tower 11BD, all earned their MS in nursing administration from Regis College in May.
Mary Beth Singh, RN, of the Medical Intensive Care Unit, in May received her MSN as Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Massachusetts.
Donald Grimes, MSN, RN, of the Medical Intensive Care Unit, in May received a post masters certificate in Nursing Informatics from Duke University.
Kathy Muse, RN, of the ICU Float Pool, in May earned her MSN in Nursing Forensics from Fitchburg State College.
Sandra Menard, BSN, RN, CEN, of the Emergency Department, in May received a graduate certificate in nurse education from Framingham State College.
Julie Tierney, BSN, RN, C, and Diane Palombi, BSN, RN, C, nurse-in-charge, of the Pain Management Center, both were certified by the ANCC in Pain Management during the inaugural exam in October.
Lynda Lynch, RN, Daphney Merveille, RN, nurse-in-charge, Nicole Pignatone, RN, nurse-in-charge, Margaret Sharon Wong, RN, nurse-in-charge, Diane Hanrahan-Torpey, RN, Susan Toto, RN, Dana Baldassarre, RN, and Keri Daru, RN, all of Tower 8AB, passed the Medical Surgical Nursing Certification exam.
Awards and Achievements
Heather Fitzgerald, BSN, RN, of the Neurosciences ICU, Patricia Aylward, MS, RN, CCRN, nurse educator for Tower 16AB, and Jackie Gagnon, MS, BSN, CCRN, Cardiac Surgery nurse educator, were elected members of the Board of Directors for the Greater Boston Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nursing (AACN). Donna Rosborough, MS, RN, of the Division of Cardiac Surgery, ended her year-long term as president of the Greater Boston Chapter of the AACN in June. She now is serving as past-president of the chapter until June 2007. The AACN is the world’s largest specialty nursing organization, representing more than 400,000 nurses who care for critically ill patients.
Martha Griffin, PhD, RN, program coordinator for Nursing Professional Development, was the keynote speaker at the National Nursing Staff Development Organization Convention in July in Orlando. During her speech, “Professional Accountability: Addressing Lateral/Horizontal Violence in Nursing Practice,” she discussed acculturated bad behavior and its impact on professional practice and identified methods of accountability to combat lateral violence in the practice of nursing.
Kate Hanley, BSN, RN, Laura Lamiroy, BSN, RN, and Sherry Iuliano, MSN, RN, all of the Neurosciences ICU, in December were inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Julie Coutu, RN, of the Medical Intensive Care Unit, was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau in February.
Julie Shea, NP, of the Cardiac Arrhythmia Service, in May chaired two sessions at the 27th annual Scientific Sessions of the Heart Rhythm Society held in Boston. She also presented an abstract on “Practical Barriers to Intensified Follow-up of Advisory Devices,” and a session on “ICD Support Groups: What works, what doesn’t.” At left, she is pictured with Akiko Kase of Keio University Hospital in Japan who also presented at the session.
Ellen Clemence, MS, RN, nurse in charge on Tower 8AB, in May received the Nancy Walden Professional Achievement Award from Northeastern University. This honor is awarded to a student who demonstrates responsible leadership in the professional organization within the discipline of nursing, active participation in achieving the goals of professional organizations in nursing and peer support and mentoring in nursing organizations.
During last month’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Nurses’ Day Dinner, BWH’s Nancy Murphy, RN, of Tower 5A, received a peer award and Tracey Slaven, RN, of Tower 5A, won the Ellen Gabriel Travel Scholarship, which gives her money to travel to an Oncology conference.
Christine Dutkiewicz, MSN, RN, nurse manager for Care Coordination; Darlene Brill, BSN, RN, care coordinator for Medical Oncology; Lynne Lenoir, BSN, RN, ASN, care coordinator for Cardiology; and Float Pool care coordinators Michelle Mitchell, RN, and Pam Peluso, BSN, RN, in June achieved case management certification from the Commission for Case Manager Certification.
