Nurses Conduct Free Vascular Screenings

Matt Quin, BSN, RN, assistant nurse manager of Radiology and the Neurosciences ICU, and De’Ann McNamara, BS, RN, nurse educator for Radiology, showed their volunteer spirit and commitment to public health by giving up a Saturday to conduct free vascular screenings for the public.
Quin and McNamara joined a group of physicians, housestaff, x-ray technologists, administrators and others working the May screening, which was attended by nearly 80 people.
Thanks to the screenings, many of these patients discovered they have significantly high blood pressure, carotid stenosis or abdominal aortic aneurysms. They left the screening equipped with the education to control or prevent these conditions and next steps to take for care. Physicians reviewed screening results with each patient and scheduled appointments for follow-up treatment at the appropriate clinics.
“These are all conditions that, if left untreated, can cause serious health problems down the road,” Quin said. “It’s important for people to be aware of them so they can seek treatment before the problems become life-threatening.”
