Buchanan Contributes as Nursing Quality Program Manager

Teresa Buchanan, BSN, RN, MBA, Nursing Services, in September joined BWH as nursing quality program manager for Medicine and Cardiovascular Medicine. In this position, she provides support to directors, nurse managers, educators and staff nurses in all of BWH’s 19 service lines.
Throughout the fall and winter, Buchanan has been instrumental in preparing BWH for the 2007 Joint Commission survey. Through education, mock surveys and mini-tracers, she helped ensure all BWH employees understand compliance policies and are familiar with this year’s National Patient Safety Goals. Buchanan also is involved in various quality improvement initiatives, nursing orientation projects and central nursing programs.
“I look forward to continue providing support to all service lines,” Buchanan said. “My goal is to ensure BWH remains ever-ready and continues to provide the safest and highest quality of care to patients.”
Buchanan brings to BWH more than 30 years of nursing experience. She earned her BSN from Niagra University in 1975 and her MBA from Salem State College in 1992. Before joining BWH, Buchanan held managerial and clinical positions at several Boston-area hospitals, including New England Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, Addison-Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester and the U.S. Veterans Administration Hospital in Jamaica Plain.
