Obituary
Deborah Shea, RN, PACU, Pre-op, Day Surgery

Brigham and Women’s Hospital mourned the loss of Deborah Shea, RN, who worked in the PACU, Day Surgery and Pre-op areas. She passed away Nov. 24 following a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 54.
Mrs. Shea served more than 25 years in the PACU, Pre-op and Day Surgery units, where she was known for her sense of humor, dedication and kindness to her patients. She formed lasting friendships with her colleagues, who were like family to her.
“Deb really appreciated her Brigham family, and we really appreciated her,” said Jeanne Lanchester, RN, nurse manager of the PACU/Pre-Op/DSU. “The nurses here supported her and stood by her to the end as she battled cancer, and they considered it a privilege to spend time with Deb. She is truly missed.”
Mrs. Shea began working at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in 1975 on F Main and then joined the Levine Cardiac Unit. She graduated from Springfield Hospital School of Nursing in 1973.
In addition to her nursing career, Mrs. Shea was devoted to her three sons. “Family was everything to her. She always put her children first,” said Trish Newman, RN, of the PACU. “She was involved in the baseball, hockey, lacrosse, football and other programs they participated in at their schools, even towards the end of her battle.”
She is survived by three sons, Matthew, Ryan and Colin Shea, all of Walpole.
