Wilson Appointed Chief of Orthopedics at Faulkner
Faulkner Hospital President David Trull and BWH Orthopedics Chairman Thomas S. Thornhill, MD, announced the appointment of Michael Grant Wilson, MD, as chief of the newly established Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the Faulkner.
“Mike has been an active staff member at the Faulkner campus for several years. He has demonstrated his commitment to this community and will provide excellent leadership to our new Department of Orthopedics,” Trull said.
Thornhill added, “Mike has demonstrated outstanding leadership in establishing Brigham and Women’s Orthopedics at Faulkner, its integration with HVMA at Faulkner and the long-standing division of Faulkner orthopedists. The product of an eight-month search headed by David Trull, myself and several senior leaders at the Faulkner, Mike Wilson is the ideal person to integrate orthopedics at Faulkner Hospital with the Department of Orthopedics at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.”
The Brigham and Women’s Foot and Ankle Center at Faulkner Hospital, including Wilson and Christopher Chiodo, MD, was the first BWH orthopedic service to begin practicing at the Faulkner when it merged with BWH in 1998. “The Faulkner and Brigham partnership has been very successful. I know that many of our patients enjoy being treated at Faulkner. They like its size, accessibility and friendly atmosphere,” Wilson said.
The orthopedic service at Faulkner performs a high volume of ambulatory and inpatient surgeries, and orthopedic surgeries represent a significant portion of the total operating room volume at Faulkner Hospital
Previously, the Division of Orthopedic Surgery has been capably led by Joseph Barr, Jr., MD, under the auspices of Pardon Kenney, MD, chief of the Faulkner Hospital Department of Surgery. The reorganization of Orthopedics as a department is a response to the steady growth in volume.
“The orthopedic service will continue to grow with the 2007 completion of Faulkner’s sixth floor surgical suite and its four new ORs,” Wilson said.
Wilson received his medical degree in 1982 at the University of Southern California and completed his residency at Los Angeles County Medical Center.
In 1987, Wilson and his wife Donna moved to Boston where he participated in fellowships in Adult Reconstructive Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a pediatric orthopedic fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital.
From 1989 to 1992, Wilson was chief of the Orthopedic Surgery Service at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in West Roxbury and chief of the Orthopedic Trauma Service at BWH. Since 1992 he has been the chief of Foot and Ankle Surgery at BWH, and Partners Chief of Foot and Ankle Surgery since 1996. Wilson serves on the Harvard Orthopedic Surgery faculty and is the author of an extensive list of articles, reviews, chapters and editorials.
