Saltzman, Carr-Locke to Lead Endoscopy
As a result of rapid growth in endoscopic services and related areas of clinical research and education, the Endoscopy Centers in July restructured medical administration. John Saltzman, MD, was named director of Endoscopy, and David Carr-Locke, MD, was named director of the Endoscopy Research and Education Institute. They jointly received the 2005 BWPO Award for Clinical Innovation.
Saltzman will direct the operations of the Endoscopy Centers at 75 Francis St. and 850 Boylston St. and provide physician leadership in Endoscopy to the hospital. He had been associate director of Endoscopy for seven years. He also serves as the governor for the State of Massachusetts of the American College of Gastroenterology.
As director of the Endoscopy Institute, Carr-Locke will continue as co-director of the BWH-MGH advanced endoscopy fellowship program and oversee research and education for endoscopy. Carr-Locke also will be planning for an institute that will provide and develop the highest quality of innovative gastroenterologic endoscopy procedures by creating a multidisciplinary program that aims to improve the diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases and enhance research and training in these areas. He previously was director of Endoscopy for 17 years, during which he led a period of dramatic growth in services, training and education. Carr-Locke is the past-President of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and is regarded as a national and international leader in therapeutic endoscopy.
