Gelbart Receives Damon Runyon Fellowship Award
Marnie Gelbart, PhD, Division of Genetics, in May received the Damon Runyon Fellowship Award from the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation. Recipients of this three-year fellowship are young scientists performing theoretical and experimental research relevant to the study of cancer and search for cancer causes, mechanisms, therapies and prevention. Gelbart’s research focuses on understanding the targeting of chromatin regulatory enzymes in the genome and might suggest novel therapies to control the activities of these enzymes in the treatment of cancer.
The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation was established in 1946, and since then has gained worldwide prominence in cancer research by identifying young postdoctoral scientists and providing them with financial support for their research. To date, the foundation has invested $200 million in cancer research, supporting more than 3,000 motivated scientists nationwide.
